About Flute Cocktail
Who Are We?
Flute Cocktail of Minnesota, Inc., aka Flute Cocktail, is a 501(c)3 arts non-profit organization.
We are a group of professional and amateur flutists from a wide variety of backgrounds who all share a love of our instruments and a desire to grow and learn together.
This translates into varied and dynamic performances by a group that is passionately dedicated to communicating to listeners an enthusiasm for music and the flute.
The voices that make up Flute Cocktail's delightful sound include C flutes, alto and bass flutes, piccolo, and whistles. We perform as a full choir or in smaller ensembles, enabling us to program for many types of gatherings and events. Many of our versatile flutists bring other musical skills to the choir, including piano, vocals, strings, and percussion.
Repertoire
Our repertoire includes works composed for flute choir as well as arrangements of classical and contemporary, folk, jazz, pop, sacred, holiday, Latin American music, musical theater, and Broadway. Flute Cocktail performs at shopping malls, schools, senior residences, churches, city parks, Upper Midwest Flute Association events, parties, and luncheons.
We specialize in audience participation concerts where all ages can move, sing, and play along with percussion instruments and manipulate props suggested by the music.
We have four performance seasons:
Winter/Spring: mid-February through April
Summer: June and July
Fall: mid-September through October
Holiday: Thanksgiving through Christmas
We offer themed programs throughout the year, including a "spirited" Gospel program, and both sacred and secular holiday music.
RECENT PROGRAMS:
Our popular “Birdsong” program featured songs about everything from nightingales to turkeys, cuckoos to swans. Our audiences got to play along with water bird whistles, wind chimes, egg shakers, and even duck quackers! We even have a “picc chick” piece featuring 6 piccolos. This program will be performed through spring of 2020 as well.
Our summer 2018 program was "Dancin' with the Flutes"--a unique collaboration between our musicians and local dancers, Deuxmensions Dance Theatre & School and Dancing Divas. In addition to dance performances and demonstrations, there were plenty of opportunities for our audience to be part of the fun, including playing along with percussion.
